Here at Upside, we use the term "comics" to cover everything: monthlies, newspaper-strips, manga, trade paperbacks etc. "Graphic Novel" is a term invented to help market comics to adults in the 1980s. We do like the unpretentious honesty of the word "comic" but, whether it is Jimmy Corrigan or the X-Men, Raymond Briggs or Jack Kirby, the only thing that matters is the quality.
